Moraira, city of traditions and customs
The Mediterranean, a melting pot of cultures and a bridge between civilizations, has marked the physiognomy of this town over the centuries. The man inhabits these lands from time immemorial, the vestiges of the Upper Paleolithic and the Neolithic, found in the “Cova de les Cendres”, as they attest. Also the Ibera culture left its imprint until its identity was lost because of the Romanization of the territory. After the Romans, farmers and ranchers, and who possibly gave us the name, the Arabs came to form the splendid landscape we enjoy today and to whom we owe many of the toponyms that name the different items of the municipal term. The main economic activity of the municipality, agriculture – which still today allows us to delight ourselves with the sweet taste of the Roman grape Moscatel and with the exquisite liquor that is obtained from its elaboration, the mistela – is losing its importance in the middle of the s. XX with the arrival of the tourist industry.
The Portet and Platgetes witness the arrival of the first tourists in the middle of this century, but it was in the late 60’s and early 70’s when we began to welcome all those who want to enjoy the benefits of climate, beautiful beaches and wonderful scenery. The visitor who comes to know us today, will discover a people rich in heritage, not only natural, but historical, artistic and monumental; and will want to delve into the culture, abundant in stories and legends, of people who will welcome you with the best of your character. #immohunter24 #injavealiving
